oh my, i had almost forgotten about this blog!!!just joking. Anyway its been a looong time since i've updated this blog. For those of you who haven't realised yet,most of the sec 4s are never around in the MRL,except for me,well then, its more or less time to pass down the torch to the sec 3s. The list new excos should be out, but i shan't write it yet in case i'm wrong. So good luck sec 3s.
P.S. thanks to all you guys for participating in the MRL amazing race and soon, we shall be having the MRL annual camp. Not sure if the Sec 4s are free but i'll make sure all of us try to make it.

Hi all,
This would be my last post here. As most all of you would have known by now, the new EXCOs are out and they have now taken over the responsibilities of running the library.

I hope all of you will give support to these new EXCOs and propose new initiatives and give feedback to them in order to improve your welfare and the library. Remember, the EXCOs are here to help you, so should you have any problems with anyone or anything in the library, pls feel free to find them.

I would also like to thank everyone for their support and enthusiasm over the past year for all the events and hope that all of you will continue to give this support to the new EXCOs.

Lastly, i would still be popping in the library from time to time so make sure the library is in tip-top shape :D

Sports Day Update!

Hi guys,

The details of this year's Sports Day fund raising for library has been finalized.For those Sec 1s who have yet to knw anything abt it, we are selling tidbits like lollipops and chips to raise funds.It is an event in which the library takes part in every year. Details are listed below:

1. For the lower Sec, you will be released from lesson at 1200 on friday. Pls have ur lunch and report to the library by 1230 for ur briefing and selection of ur shift.It is compulsory and pls inform me( Yichao) if u cant make it. details will be given during the briefing.

2. For the Upper Sec, you will be unfortunately released from lesson at 1250.I would expect all of you to help out the whole day at the stall so pls go to the library ASAP right after u are released. Lunch can be taken after the briefing.

3. For all: Its compulsory to help out at this event.There will be 2 shifts available. You must at least attend 1 shift. Details of the shifts timings can be found in the library whiteboard at the counter.All of you are VERY STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to help out at the stall for the full shift. Breaks will still be given to u if u are doing full shift. Furthermore, u are helping the library to raise funds so tt we can have more events like the camps and gatherings next time :D

Sports Day '10

Hi all,
The long awaited update had came...

Sports Day will be on this coming Friday, May 21st. As per tradition, Library will be selling stuff during this event to raise funds for our events throughout the year. This year, we will be selling small snacks like Lollipops, Potato Chips, Oreo etc etc... I would request everyone to help out on that day itself so as to contribute to the library.

This year, everyone will be required to help out at least 1.5 hours on the store and u will be assigned various jobs to do. Of course, i would hope that ur can volunteer to help out the whole day if possible. Any ppl competing on tt day itself for any events can contact me to arrange for wad u can do. More info will be given via SMS in the later part of this week and shifts will be arranged subsequently.

Anybody with any questions can feel free to comment on the tagboard or SMS me personally. Thanks :D

Hi people

Its been a long time since the last update...hope ur enjoyed the camp. :D

I just want to inform all of you that the interviews for leadership positions are coming up soon and everyone will be having it.The dates are:

Monday ,April 12
Tuesday, April 13
Wednesday, April 14
Friday, April 16

Please not that the interviews will be held during ur duty time EXCEPT the Thursday people. For the ppl who have duty on Thursday, please come on either TUESDAY or FRIDAY to have your interviews. Also, for those who are not able to make it on any of the mentioned dates, there will also be interviews on April 19-21 and April 23. Th interviews will be held by the sec 4s and Mdm Goh.

Hi everyone,
Some of u may have noticed that the new Sec 1s librarians have started their duties in the library and i do hope that you, as seniors will take care of them and help them integrate into library CCA. The inter-class scrabble competition that is organised by the library annually will be starting soon, in early march and some of the EXCOs and sec 3s will be be needing ur help to help in the planning of the competition like counting the scrabble tiles in the boxes. Pls do all ur best to help.
For the new Sec 1s, welcome to Library Cca and i am sure u will have a fruitful 4 years in the library. This blog is a platform for all librarians to communicate with each other and i will be posting regularly here for any announcement or news, so do visit the blog regularly. If u have any questions, u can ask for my number frm ur seniors or ask frm me personally when i am in the library.

Welcome to the library blog sec 1s, i believe you have received the e-mai/SMSesl i sent to you and if you had chose to visit this blog, you do have an interest in the library club.

To those that have already decided to join us, i welcome you in advance on behalf of all librarians and also, i must remind you that you MUST PUT MEDIA RESOURCE LIBRARY ONLY AS A 2ND CCA. Only then can you join the library.

To those that are still deciding, i hope that you can think through all that you had heard or knew about the library during the CCA talk, library tour and Wednesday's CCA tour. Remember, if you are in need of CIP hours (You would need 100 hours if u wnt more CCA points) the library club helps you arrange for CIP for you to get the hours you need! Also, u can get CCA points by if u become a leader in the library. For those who like to read books, u can borrow books for a longer period! REMEMBER, joining a second CCA may sound tough and a waste of time BUT! You will definitely learn more than your peers and experience how to be an/a entrepreneur / management leader.Also, u do not need to devote a lot of time to library as duties are only once per week and u can choose what day u want to do ur duty on! So do put MRL as your 2nd CCA!

The EOYs are over and i do hope u all did well... anyway , since the EOYs are over , do concentrate a bit more on ur CCAs and put in more effort. Also, your attendance for the whole year is now out in the library pls do take note and see how is ur attendance... Hi guys,

Homecoming this year was an improvement as compared to last year despite having some of the food unsold. Kudos to those who helped out at the stall. However , those of you who didn't turn up for ur duty that day better give me a valid reason.

Also, i want to make some things clear. Attendance for library duty weekly is compulsory and will only be cancelled if there are special school events or other things that day. If you are on MC that day, pls submit the MC to Mdm Goh the next day and arrange for a day to make up your duty. Sms me personally or inform Mdm Goh if you have can't go for your duty that day. Also, if you sign in late for duty that day, pls write down ur reason on the remarks column in the sign in list.

The homecoming duty roster is up on the whiteboard in the library already, pls go and fill up the duty slot that is most suitable for u and will not clash with the slot u have selected for ur class's or 1st CCA's store. This is my final post on this blog and from next week onwards, the new top 3 key leaders will step up to run the library.

The AGM will be held on this coming Thursday, 28 May in the library at 3.15pm. (reporting time)
For those librarians who happen to have their 1st CCA ongoing, please try to get yourself excused. The AGM will not be very long, it should only last about 40 minutes. If you are unable to get excused, please inform Mdm Goh asap.

Lastly, I hope that everyone will show and give the next batch of leaders your support, following their lead and of course, show some initiative and propose some ideas to them to help improve the current situation of not just the library but library as a CCA as well.

You are all required to help out at the library stall during the sports night. We will be selling tidbits and lollipops, attendance will be taken. Report to the library right after you are dismissed and you will then be briefed about what to do and all the necessary stuff and grouping. Don't worry, you will be allowed to go take attendance at 1.30pm at the open plaza. After your house meeting, come to the library store (most likely outside the auditorium) to get your float cash and stuff to sell.

Inter-class Scrabble 09

To all librarians:

As promised, I am putting up the dates and schedule for the inter-class scrabble 09 here. We will need additional runners and helpers on certain days.

Below are the dates of the competition. More details, rules and regulations are pasted outside the library. *The number of games shown is the total number of games played on that day. Each day there will be 2 different timeslots and different match-ups. From 3.30pm to 4.30pm and 4.30 pm to 5.30pm. Classes had already been informed about their matches, time and date.

12 May Tuesday (20 games), 13 May Wednesday (24 games), 14 May Thursday (16 games)
18 May Monday (16 games), 19 May Tuesday (24 games)

I hope that all librarians will come and help as a runenr atleast once (preferably 12,13,19 May) as this is an incredible learning experience NOT TO BE MISSED! Watch and learn how such an event is hosted and give feedbacks to your seniors about how to further improve this event and the way we organise things. I look forward to seeing you all at this 1 week long event!

Inter-Class Scrabble 09

People,

It is now YOUR common test week (Sec1 - 3). Good luck with your MR! However, in week 8 and 9, the library will be holding a Scrabble competition for our school! Yes it's still a competition only open to our students as always, BUT! No, it is now no longer an Inter-house event..... This year, we are trying out and hosting...... the FIRST EVER Inter-CLASS Scrabble competition!

This event is already planned, all that's left is you! My fellow librarians, I need you to help out during this competition which will last for 2 weeks, week 8 (Monday - Thursday) and week 9 (Monday - Thursday). We will need 12 runners for the competition each day. Librarians on duty will have to be runners definitely, but we will need more manpower for some days. Therefore, I am putting up a notice here to inform all of you that we NEED MANPOWER!! To make this event a success. We will be assigning days to you to help out. Further details regarding this event will be released to all of you soon.

Last interview day

To those that received my sms and came here to read this notice, I emphasize that tomorrow is the last day we the sec 4s are conducting the 1st round of interview. This is an important interview as we will access you people and note down some comments and remarks about you for the teacher to take note. If you performed well, your efforts shall be made known to the teachers who will pick the new section leaders and new EXCO members after hearing our feedback.

Therefore, if you really want to hold a leadership position in the library now, do turn up tomorrow at the library for your interview. If you don't turn up, I will just fill in "nil" for everything regarding you.

Sec 4s are leaving

People,

Most of you are aware that the sec 4s together with mdm Goh had conducted interviews for the past 4 days. We will conduct interviews for all librarians as we want to give everyone a fair chance to showcase your leadership talents. Sec 1s unfortunately, being an exco is out of the question as you lack experience. We will be choosing people eligible for the new exco from sec 2s and 3s. For those that are selected to go for a second round of interviews, you will be informed via this blog and the small whiteboard we have in the library. The final list for librarians chosen for the 2nd round will be ready by next wednesday, so be sure to drop by the library and check to see if your name is on the list. The second round of interview will be conducted by teachers. They will be accessing you to decide if you are ready and capable of doing your job WELL as a member of EXCO or section leader. A total of 5 section leaders will be chosen by the teachers. 1 for each day. To those that have yet to go through the 1st round of interview, please turn up in the library next week monday and tuesday.

Also, please fill up your library camp feedback form found near the attendance list. We need your feedbacks to further improve the library camp in 2010.

Library camp changes

People,

I have bad news for everyone. The camp will not be an overnight one anymore due to safety reasons and some other rules and regulations. The changes are quite drastic, I need you all who are attending the camp to come down to the library this Friday to collect your new "to bring" list.

The reporting times have also been changed and you all will be released at about 7pm to go home and bath, eat dinner, sleep. Remember to report to the school library at 8am the following day 17th march to continue participating in the camp. I will try to rearrange the activities and at the same time let the camp be as fun as possible.

Library Camp 2009

The consent forms for the library camp must be returned by tomorrow with $10 attached if you are attending. (the forms were given out since last week Wednesday) The itinerary for the camp is also out and please remember to collect it from Mdm goh when you pass the form and $10 to her in the library. A small summary of the activities is also in the itinerary and for more information please contact ME ( Edison). You MUST hand in the $10 and consent form by TOMORROW *THURSDAY* or we will take it as you are not attending.

Just a reminder, the camp will be held in the library and the reporting time is 12pm. No lunch will be provided on the 1st day, 16 march. So remember to have your lunch before coming. Hope that everyone will enjoy the camp and make new friends during the camp.

Bicultural week 2009

Next week will be our annual Bi-cultural week. In order to allow students to unwind from the taxing examinations held last week and to promote Bi-cultural awareness in our school, the school had decided to screen movies on Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2.30 pm to 4.30pm in the library.

I need librarians who are on duty on Thursday and Friday to come up with publicity posters. Also, equipments needed and seats must be ready by Friday. Excos and section leaders on duty on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be in charge of the movie screening on their duty day. Maintain order and make sure the screening goes smoothly.

First meeting with Sec 1s

For those that dropped by the library during 2.30-3.30 you may have witnessed the first meeting with the sec 1s.
To the sec 1s, welcome to our CCA and most of you have already gave us your contact details and your desired duty days. For those that have not met up with, I will try to find you people but at the same time, if you happen to read this post, please do me a favour and drop-by the library to give your contact details and your desired duty days. If you want to speak to me about something, you can come to the library and take down my handphone number or you can simply find me in school and tell me what you wish to say. (My number is for you to ask questions related to the library, not something for you to spam.....)

Next week 11th Feb is total defence day and the whole school will be going on an excursion to some historical sites or other war memorials. It is sad but the librarians whose duty day is on Wednesday will have to perform duty AS PER NORMAL till 5pm.

It's now 2009, duty resumes

Hello my fellow librarians, it's 2nd week of 2009 and I know many of you are still in holiday mood but, I must inform you guys that, duty resumes and all of you are to attend duty from now onwards.

There will be no change in the duty time slots unless you request for a change of duty day. Also, there is a form at the library counter. That piece of paper is the 2009 sec 2 to 4 contact list and I want everyone to take a look at it, check your own particulars, and finally sign beside your name as a confirmation that all information is correct.

I see most of the sec 1s have no friends of library account. You guys need this account in order to let the librarian key in your CIP hours. If you do not have an account, please create it asap at this address : http://vms.nlb.gov.sg/MainServlet.

I think all sec 1s should go and create as you guys have no record under CIP at NLB. Sec 2s should go to that website and double check too. If you want to check if you already have a valid account, you can go to forget your password and key in your NRIC no. and your E-mail. If you have an account, an E-mail will be sent to your mail box (duh). If you do not have, please create it asap. I don't want anyone to come find us and say "why my CIP hours at the NLB are not recorded?" and i hope everyone can complete your 100hours by the end of sec 4.

Dear Librarians,
There are some changes made to the dates for CIP after End-Of-Year Papers. Now there are 2 options for you to choose from.

1. Go to "Yishun Library". They are having a re-opening event and CIP slots are available. It is a roadshow and is believed to be quite tiring. The dates for this CIP event is the whole month of November all the way to 1st December.

2. Go to "Bishan Library". The Bishan Library is conducting an Art and Craft workshop for children ( Primary school or younger). Librarians who wish to take part in this workshop shall assist and guide the children to do their craftwork. Training will be given to everyone who is helping out in this event. The dates for this CIP event are Dec 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th. The time slot is 12-4pm. (4hrs) Librarians taking part in this event will have to turn up for atleast 2 days to meet the requirement of min 6hrs.

Any burning questions that you people have please look for Mdm Goh or find me for more information regarding CIP. Also please select the CIP event fast and inform Mdm Goh ASAP (preferably by this week as you should not be bothered by such things during your exam week).

Meeting on wednesday

A meeting was held this yesterday and we had discussed many things happening in the library and also a new set of rules to follow.

Firstly, let us all welcome our new librarian Mdm Goh to our MRL. I hope that all librarians will listen to her, work closely with her. If there is any problem that you face in the library, my fellow librarians you can approach Mdm Goh or any of your EXCOs for help. :D

Next, the notice board news section. The EXCO had decided and agreed that the notice board is to be updated daily. It is the duty of librarians to maintain and update the notice board from Term 4 onwards.

Also, all librarians please inform Mdm Goh if you have not had your lunch before duty and each of you will be given 40 minutes to have your lunch. Any longer you shall have to explain to Mdm Goh yourself.

Finally, tomorrow is teacher's day and all librarians will like to thank our teachers for their support and guidance. We all wish the teachers a happy teacher's day!

Week 3 Assignment

Hello people,

first, i need to thank all those people who have helped during the Sports Night sales of the hotdog buns... although it may be tough and not all buns were sold out, i really appreciated everyone's efforts. FYI, we made a profit for more than $100 despite the slow sales... good effort.

here we will share some pictures of the processes of how everyone helped to prepare the buns...

for this week, you are required to brainstorm a set of ideas (whether food/service/games, anything) and list down its good points and how it may be unsuccessful.

remember, to every idea, there are good points and bad points. therefore, i want at least 5 ideas to be churned out by your thinking brains.

We have just attended our camp from Friday to Saturday... It's the first time the CCA has ever organized an Overnight Camp. Fortunately, it's successful with the active participation from all of you. Thank you again.

It is just a simple reflection about the camp. This is your assignment for the week. Please write on foolscap paper and submit to Ms Neo by your duty day. However, if you think it's more personal and you actually wish to keep it to yourself and your seniors only, you can always submit it to me personally. Alternatively, you can fold your paper into half and staple it.

Preferably, i want everyone to submit it to me personally so i can learn more about you and your thoughts. I will be coming over to the Library everyday if I could. Then, you can submit it to me personally.

Regarding Library Affairs

People,

the Common Tests and Prelims are over... Hope you have achieved good results so far, if you have not, please do continue to work hard.

Since it is after the exams, it is time to commit ourselves into the CCA... As not much problems have cropped up so far, I will just list down the basic responsibilities everyone is required to undertake.

1) Attendance - Your library duty is only once a week. Please do come for your CCA and if you are unable to make it on your duty day, please do make up for your duty earlier or later during THAT WEEK. Please do not procrastinate. If you are a Section Leader or EXCO, please do not be surprised to come back at least ONCE more for certain meetings and gatherings.

*If I do discover that you have not done your duty for the week, you will be given a warning or referred to our CCA teacher.

2) Basic duties - As a basic librarian, your basic duties are very simple. Some users may not push in the chairs after the usage of the tables or computers, please do help to push them back in.

- Do take some time to shelf-read. Most of you should able to shelf-read after the experiences at the National Library Board. If your juniors (Sec 1s) are unsure of doing so, please do guide them along.

- The magazines and newspapers should also be arranged neatly.

*If I do discover such duties not done, the entire team of librarians on duty will be responsible.

3) Skills learnt - One very important skill which all librarians should know is book wrapping. Those whose skills have "gone rusty" or forgotten, please do approach your seniors, Guang Wen or me.

- Different tasks/duties may be given each week for everyone to learn complete. Please do put in the effort to learn this skills and complete them well. At the end of the day, it is YOU who will benefit.

4) At different times, certain events may crop up. Some events may require you to render your assistance. Upcoming is the Inter-house Scrabble Competition, people may be required to help out as word-checkers, to help out with furniture arrangement and time keepers.

5) Library T-shirt. Everyone will be required to purchase a library T-shirt. You MAY be required to wear them during your CCA days, depending on the instructions given.

I will going round to take note of your sizes. Samples of the t-shirt sizes are available in the Library. Sizes are S, M, L, XL and XXL. Please do take a look at the sizes and confirm your sizes with me latest this week.

6) The Sec 1s are almost settled into the CCA. Seniors, please do guide them along when they are in doubt or fulfilling of duties. Also, try to know the names of all of them even though you are of different duty days.

7) The Sec 4s will be stepping down TENTATIVELY at the end of Term 2. Mainly the Sec 3s and some Sec 2s will take over the baton as the Executive Committee 2008/2009. Reshuffling of the Section Leaders will also be done. If you do wish to become a leader, please do show good performance in terms of Attendance, Performance, Responsiblity and Character. The selections will be done by the Current EXCOs 2007/2008.

T-shirt Design

Everyone, especially Kai Ming, Perry, Yu Cheng, Yi Chao, Timothy, Lander, Alistair, Edison, Kah Koon, Manfred, Ruo Lin, Hong Zhi, Guang Wen, thank you all for your help today at the CCA Exhibition for the Sec 2s.

I know, it may be stressful or boring to be waiting for people to come in, that's you all are sitting around talking and playing THAT CUBE. However, when people came in, i expected more to be done, you all were like don't know what to do, here and there. Nonetheless, i really appreciated your help today. As long as the list of names is done, you have done your best. Thanks a lot.

ok, this is the t-shirt design provided by the t-shirt supplier. some prior changes are already made to it.

1) There will not be any designs on the sleeves.
2) The words and design has to be larger on the back of the t-shirt.
3) EXCOs will use a collared-shirt while the librarians will use a roundneck t-shirt.
4) There is a decision to be made. Do we want your names to be printed at the back of the t-shirts or you don't want your names printed?

As for the price quotation, the lady said the lesser the colours and the more the quantity, the lesser the price. as for our CCA, i estimated at 50 shirts, that's why it costs about $14.50/shirt unless we do order more.

One more thing, the school will be subsidizing HALF (50%) of the t-shirt cost. Maybe you all can consider buying 2 or 3 shirts...

Thus, i require each and every librarian to give me feedback and comments about the above t-shirt design to me on MSN or via SMS to me. Hopefully, we can place an order soon and you all will be able to use the t-shirt during the Library Camp in March!

Hey guys... Well its been quite some time since the last post... Over this period of time, the library has been undergoing some changes, so here you go!

OKAY. Now here you go. Our very own laser printer in our library. Really good quality colour and prints fast too. So do check it out! Great for work purposes.

As for prices, we haven't really decided on it yet, so we'll post another entry on the prices of using the colour printer in time to come...

So... Yeah.

3) By now, everyone should know when is your holiday duty. Otherwise, please check your allotted day at the Library ASAP. People who do not turn up for holiday duty will be dealt with seriously. If you are not free during your allotted day, please do inform Ms Neo to arrange to do duty on another day.

4) The EXCO has launched the Outstanding Librarian of the Month Award. During monthly meetings, a librarian with good attitude, responsibility and is exemplary in their behaviour during duty days will be given the award. There will be prizes for the winner. Besides this, the judging criteria will also depend on whether you do come punctually for your holiday duty and weekly duties. The first winner will be announced on the last Thursday of January 2008.

1) Library CCA has resumed since the exams ended. people who do not attend cca without a valid excuse will be in trouble.

2) the workshop for library skills is confirmed. attendance is compulsory. since the school has paid for the workshop, make sure you are present.

3) the school's open house will be held on 19th october, saturday. all librarians will be required to help out in preparing and showing the library to visitors for this week and the actual day itself. please take note.

4) the school library has arranged for all librarians to attend CIP at toa payoh community library. make sure you have the information about the CIP and your time slot of the CIP. if you have not, please at least pass by the library to get the information. also, you will be required to sign up via the national library website on your own for this CIP programme.

On a note, most of you all should have no other CCA or activities on Friday for most CCAs have cancelled training or practice except the uniform groups. Anybody belonging to the uniform groups have to inform me and I will infom your IC of your CCA to release you for a little while to attend the AGM for Library CCA.

It is a very short meeting with all librarians, mainly to announce the new EXCO for 2007/2008, feedback from everyone, ideas-sharing and teachers' talk. Attendance is compulsory.

Postponement of Annual General Meeting

Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be officially posted till next week on Thursday, 20 September.

It will not held this week due to the Sec 3s having English Oral Examination on Wednesday and Thursday. The Workshop for Nurturing Library Leaders will also be postponed till after your Final Year Exams.

AGM will take place for less than 1 hour, from 3.00pm to 4.00pm. Events include announcing of new Executive Committee for 2007/2008, speeches, discussion & feedback and maybe lunch.

Please take note of the date and time. Attendance is compulsory.

AGM notice

Ppl, sorry for the late notice.

the initial plan of having the AGM and Workshop today, Wednesday, 5th September, was cancelled. reason being that some of our teachers are not around, Malaysian scholars librarians are back in Malaysia and other reasons.

the AGM and workshop will be postponed most probably to Term 3 Week 1 on Thursday right after school. Be prepared to stay at least until 6pm for the workshop is 3 hours long. Lunch may be provided but not confirmed.

Librarians, attendance for the Workshop and AGM is compulsory and whoever is unable to come on Thursday is to inform me ASAP. Feedback from all librarians is greatly appreciated.

the EV team has used our library premises as their interview offices and we have specially done up the place for the purpose. teachers and students who has gone for the interview may have seen the decorations. so as the occasion is over, we are still requiring ppl's feedback over whether we should retain the decoration for the comfort of you ppl using the facilities...

this is the fourth level classroom available for booking by teachers for air-conditioned remedials after school

this are the tables and chairs available for group cca interviews or activities available for booking by teachers. used most of the time for sec 4 revision area...

this are the decor u ppl might have seen when u have gone for the interviews...

these are basically the uses of the 4th level rooms... always available for teachers to book with our librarian on the 3rd level...

introducing now our facilites found on the main area of the library on the 3rd level... as usual, our wide variety of books of different genres and new arrivals...

new arrivals include the entire 7 book collection of Harry Potter with 3 copies of new Deathly Hallows, Stormbreaker and many more... New Chinese books and English easy reading have all just arrived for your reading pleasures...

everyone should have at least used out computers once... printing service always available if u saved your document in thumbdrive and approach our librarian at the counter..

our very new addition of music stations can be used... newest hits and songs... feel free to give us suggestions of which albums to purchase...

photocopy machines... $4 for 100 prints... card available for purchase at the counter.
